Jurassic Park’s Jeff Goldblum Is Back in Jurassic World 2

Big news for Jurassic World 2 today, as Jeff Goldblum, one of the stars of the original series, is coming back for the new movie.

Jeff Goldblum has signed on to reprise his Jurassic Park character of Ian Malcolm for J. A. Bayona‘s upcoming sequel Jurassic World 2. Goldblum will be joining Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard in the currently filming yet-to-be-officially-titled sequel.

Goldblum co-starred in 1993’s Jurassic Park and the 1997 sequel The Lost World: Jurassic Park as Dr. Ian Malcolm, a know-it-all mathematician who specializes in a branch of mathematics known as “Chaos Theory.” He was brought to Jurassic Park as a consultant for the park’s insurance.

He somehow survived the events of the first film, attempted to go public about his experience on Isla Nublar but was discredited by Hammond’s nephew, Peter Ludlow. He was ridiculed in the public media, and his University tenure was revoked. Summoned by an ill John Hammond, Malcolm was convinced to go on another adventure to Site B; a separate island where the dinosaurs were bred before being moved to the main island.

Speaking with Fandango, Goldblum admitted he was open to the idea of reprising Dr. Malcom for the Jurassic World trilogy.

"I'm nothing if not open. I'm like an open-faced sandwich. My door is not always open -- I took the door off. I removed the hinges from the door. I'm too open. I'm like a chicken piccata. What was I about to say? Oh yes, the two [Jurassic] movies I did with them were plenty. If I never did anything more, I'd certainly be well satisfied."

Jurassic World 2 is being directed by J.A. Bayona and stars Bryce Dallas Howard (Claire), Chris Pratt (Owen), Rafe Spall, BD Wong (Dr. Henry Wu), Toby Jones, and Justice Smith. The film is being produced by Belen Atienza, Patrick Crowley, and Frank Marshall, with Steven Spielberg, Colin Trevorrow, and Thomas Tull serving as executive producers.

In Jurassic World, located off the coast of Costa Rica, the Jurassic World luxury resort provides a habitat for an array of genetically engineered dinosaurs, including the vicious and intelligent Indominus rex. When the massive creature escapes, it sets off a chain reaction that causes the other dinos to run amok. Now, it's up to a former military man and animal expert (Chris Pratt) to use his special skills to save two young boys and the rest of the guests from an all-out, prehistoric assault.

Jurassic World 2 is set for June 22, 2018 release. Goldblum will next be seen in Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok, which hits theaters on November 3, 2017.
